This, of course, is a lovely tribute, but we are confident that the captain/owner realized a greater profit on the charter than we would pay for the cruise to Eagle Island. In fact, there was a family who had chartered the boat to scatter their father's/grandfather's ashes at sea. He said that he did not supervise the person who answered the phone and had no responsibility for what we were told. When we told him that we had called yesterday to confirm, we were NOT told about a cancellation (if so, we would have arranged to go on the 1:30). We politely asked about the Eagle Island cruise and were abruptly told that this morning he had a charter group and would not be taking the cruise. Shortly thereafter, the boat pulled in, and we walked down to be greeted by the captain/owner. So, we arrived at the Bailey Island location around 9:00 and saw several people milling around. We asked if we needed to make a reservation - no. We called on Monday to confirm and verify the location for a Tuesday morning at 9:30. If we have people traveling with us on a future trip, we would certainly repeat.Ītlantic Cruises travels from Bailey Island to Eagle Island on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30 and 1:30. For $35 per person (including the park entrance fee), this trip is a bargain. The Captain has a great personality but doesn't talk to excess. No keepers, but he returned some young lobsters and a crab to the ocean. Ring and his first mate could pull up 2 lobster traps. We departed at 11:45AM, and made a couple of stops so Capt. Admiral Peary's former property was wonderful. A new visitor center opened this weekend which was a bonus for us. It took about 35 minutes to arrive at Eagle Island where we were met on the dock by the Rangers. Any boat can break down, but we had a perfect trip. The requisite safety devices were present, and she ran well.

The boat is old, but all the Coast Guard inspections looked up to date. We got to the dock with time to spare and got on with one other couple. Ring said there was plenty of room on the boat, and if we were running late (from Massachusetts to South Freeport), to call the number and he would wait a bit.

My wife called on Friday regarding the 9:30 trip to Eagle Island on Saturday. It was great to be out on the water and we thoroughly enjoyed the excursion. On the return trip we eased up near a small island that held numerous gulls, seabirds, and harbour seals. Afterwards we had plenty of time to hike the trails on the island.

It had been turned into a museum and we were treated to an excellent tour of the home. Once on Eagle Island we learned how Admiral Perry purchased the island and built a home there. Tom told us all about the commercial and local lobstering industry. As we got further out into the bay we found ourselves navigating though hundreds of lobster buoys. Tom pointed out the various islands and points of interest. We headed out into the bay for about a 30 minute ride. That made it small enough to make the tour seem more personalized. I was delighted to see that the boat wasn't a huge ship but instead was sized to fit about 25 people. We booked the Eagle Island Adventure with Atlantic Seal Cruises. We have been to Freeport several times but never took a water cruise until now.
